The third generation Impala was restyled for 1961 on the General Motors B platform for the first time, with a more trim and boxy body than the 1958 to 1960 cars. The Impala SS, or Super Sport, was introduced on December 17, 1960 and the 409 engine arrived during the run, and the body was restyled in 1962, 1963 and 1964. The 1964 model has become a staple of lowrider culture. Its model years run from 1961 to 1964.
