The second generation Impala was redesigned for 1959 as part of a General Motors economy move, sharing its body shells with the lower end Buicks, Oldsmobiles and Pontiacs. It had a new X frame, a roof line three inches lower, bodies two inches wider and flattened tailfins that pointed outward, with teardrop taillights, and became a separate series with a four door hardtop added. Its model years run from 1959 to 1960.
