The fourth generation Corvette was a clean break from the C3, with an entirely new chassis and a sleeker but still evolutionary body, led by chief Corvette designer Dave McLellan under design director Irv Rybicki. No 1983 Corvettes were sold to the public, because the launch was delayed, and the first C4 was a 1984 model. Its fastback was the first Corvette with a glass hatchback, and the convertible returned in 1986. The ZR1 with the Lotus designed LT5 engine ran from 1990 to 1995. Its model years run from 1984 to 1996.
