The one generation of the 700 began as a development contract that Denzel received in January 1958, and he showed a prototype to BMW's management in July of that year. The coupe went into production in August 1959 and the saloon followed in December. The first variant after them was the 700 Sport of August 1960, and the final development was the 700 LS Coupe of 1964. Its model years run from 1959 to 1965.
