The second generation 2 Series coupe, the G42, was revealed in July 2021 as the successor to the F22 coupe and F23 convertible. It stayed rear wheel drive and was the first BMW vehicle designed by BMW of Mexico, being produced at the plant in San Luis Potosi from 2 September 2021. A second generation M2, the G87, was revealed in October 2022 and went on sale in 2023. Its model years run from 2021 to 2026.
