The FX4 of the Austin years replaced the FX3 in 1958 and used a 2178 cubic centimeter BMC diesel engine with a Borg-Warner automatic gearbox at first. The manual gearbox of the Gipsy was added as an option in 1961, a 2199 cubic centimeter petrol engine was offered from 1962, and the cab was revised in 1969 after its intended replacement was cancelled. A larger diesel arrived in 1971 for the FX4D. Its model years run from 1958 to 1982.
