The 1996 Acura 3.5RL replaced the Legend as Acura's flagship. The longitudinal engine layout gave it a tighter turning circle than most front-drive cars and a front-to-rear weight split of 56 to 44, and a four-speed automatic with Gradelogic, a power moonroof and speed-sensitive steering came standard. A hard-disk navigation system was optional in California, and a cellular phone could be fitted in the console. The name Legend was dropped because buyers did not connect it with Acura.
