The 2001 NSX was the last model year with pop-up headlights. In December 2001 the car was facelifted for 2002 with fixed xenon headlamps to look more modern against its competitors, so the 2001 cars are the last of the original look. The 2001 model range kept the NSX-T and a few special-order fixed-roof cars, and the Japanese Type S trim was made through the same year. In the 2001 cars the 3.2 litre engine with six-speed manual was the high-performance choice, while the automatic still used the 3.0 litre.
