Willys Six

Automobiles

The Willys Six was an American passenger car made by Willys-Overland of Toledo, Ohio. It first appeared in 1918, when the company, which until then had built only Willys-Knight cars with sleeve-valve engines, offered its first car with a conventional poppet-valve engine. That engine was an inline six of 45 horsepower (33 kW) in a car with a wheelbase of 3,048 mm, priced from 1,625 to 2,045 US dollars. This Series 89 came as a seven-seat tourer, a four-seat club roadster and a six-seat limousine, and was built until 1920 alongside the Knight models of Series 88. Poppet-valve engines returned at Willys in 1930 with a 65 horsepower (48 kW) inline six that carried the cars to 115 km/h on a 2,794 mm wheelbase, at 695 to 850 dollars. The Six was offered in several versions up to 1933, when the company went bankrupt but kept building cars; it was then dropped, with the Willys-Knight, in favour of the smaller four-cylinder Willys 77.
