Toyota Matrix

Automobiles

The Toyota Matrix, officially the Toyota Corolla Matrix, is a compact hatchback that Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada built in Cambridge, Ontario, derived from the Corolla. It was introduced in 2002 as a 2003 model as the result of a joint venture between Toyota and General Motors, whose version was the Pontiac Vibe, assembled by NUMMI in California. The two had different sheet metal and exterior trim but were nearly identical inside, narrow and tall wagons styled in a quasi SUV fashion for a youthful market. Sales ended in the United States in 2013 and in Canada in 2014, and the Corolla iM and later the Corolla hatchback took over its role. Generations with their own pages on this site: the first generation, E130 (2003 to 2008); the second generation, E140 (2009 to 2014).
