In 2006 the power of the 1ZZ-FE engine was reduced to 126 horsepower and that of the 2ZZ-GE to 164 horsepower, because of new testing standards and not a change in the engines. In late 2006 Toyota discontinued the 2ZZ-GE and dropped the XRS, and all wheel drive was dropped at the same time. It was model year 4 of 6 in the Toyota Matrix (first generation, E130), 2003 to 2008, coming after the 2005 model year and before the 2007 model year. Model year pages for the Toyota Matrix run from 2003 to 2014.
