The Etios Concept saloon with a 1.5 liter petrol engine and the Etios Concept hatchback with a 1.2 liter petrol engine were unveiled at the 10th Auto Expo in New Delhi. During development the Etios was code named EFC, for Entry Family Car, and Toyota invested 350 million dollars building a second plant in India to produce it. Since its introduction it was updated three times, in March 2013, November 2014 and September 2016, and Indian production stopped in March 2020 as Bharat Stage 6 took effect.
