The fourth generation was launched in February 1971 for the Japanese market, with trims rising from Deluxe through Super Deluxe to Super Saloon. A Royal Saloon trim added with the January 1973 facelift borrowed luxury features from the Century limousine. North America took only the first two model years before the Corona Mark II replaced it there, and Japanese television commercials featured the actors Satoshi Yamamura and, from 1973, Sayuri Yoshinaga.
