The first Corolla was shown at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1966 and went on sale that November with a new 1100 cc pushrod engine. It was sold in Japan through the Toyota Corolla Store dealers as the second model there next to the smaller Publica, and Australia was the first export market. A four door sedan and a light van joined the original two door in 1967, a fastback Sprinter sold at separate Toyota Auto Store dealers followed in 1968, and in August 1969 the engine was enlarged to 1166 cc.
