The Toyota Camry Solara, popularly known as the Solara, is a mid size coupe and convertible that Toyota built on the mechanics of the Camry. It effectively replaced the discontinued XV10 Camry Coupe, but where that car had a conservative design the Solara was styled with more emphasis on sportiness, with more rakish lines and an uprated suspension. The first generation went on sale in the third quarter of 1998 as a 1999 model, the second generation came in 2003 for the 2004 model year, and the coupe ended in mid 2008. Generations with their own pages on this site: the first generation, XV20 (1999 to 2003); the second generation, XV30 (2004 to 2008).
