The first generation Agya was shown at the 20th Indonesia International Motor Show in September 2012 as the joint answer of Daihatsu and Toyota to Indonesia's Low Cost Green Car program, and went on sale in September 2013 after the program's approval slipped by a year. Early cars used only a 998 cc three cylinder engine. Facelifts came on 7 April 2017 and 19 March 2020, and Toyota Motor Philippines sold it from 2014 as the Wigo.
