For 1978 the Grand Am nameplate returned on a downsized model using the Grand Prix's G platform, offered in both two door and four door models with a vertical bar grille to differentiate it from the LeMans on which it was based. Like the 1973 to 1975 models it had standard radial tires and an upgraded Radial Tuned Suspension. Slow sales led to its discontinuation after the 1980 model year. Its model years run from 1978 to 1980.
