Introduced in 1980, the fourth iteration of the Galant Sigma and Eterna Sigma debuted many new innovations for Mitsubishi, including a 2.3 liter turbo diesel of 84 PS first shown at the 1980 Paris Motor Show, and the two door coupe was redesigned for 1980 and sold through 1983. It was chosen Car of the Year in New Zealand in 1981, and from 1982 to 1983 some Australian Sigmas were exported to the United Kingdom with the Lonsdale badge. Its model years run from 1980 to 1982.
