For the second generation in a row Mitsubishi could claim to be building an award winning car, as the Galant Sigma was chosen as Car of the Year in New Zealand in 1981. The fourth generation, the A160, was in its second year, a sedan and coupe sold as the Sigma in Australia and New Zealand, the Colt in the United States and the Galant in Europe, built in Japan. The name Galant comes from the French word for chivalrous.
