In July 1986 Mitsubishi changed the appearance of the Debonair, as the previous version was seen as extremely rare and not a sales leader or image maker. The second generation adopted a front wheel drive layout, a cost effective way to increase interior space, shared with the E11 Galant. It came with Mitsubishi's first V6 engines, the 6G71 2.0 liter and 6G72 3.0 liter under the Cyclone moniker. Its model years run from 1986 to 1991.
