Mazda launched a new Carol in December 2009, first revealed at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show. It was updated alongside its brother, the Suzuki Alto, and like the Alto it was available with all wheel drive and a CVT. It was a rebadged Alto that Suzuki made for Mazda and sold in Japan as a kei car. The car was sold in Japan as a kei car, built to the size and engine limits of that class. Its model years run from 2009 to 2013.
