The third generation had much sleeker styling than the Square Bird, drawn by Bill Boyer, and a larger 390 cubic inch V8 as its only engine. Its most distinctive feature was a Swing Away steering wheel that slid about 18 inches to the right to ease entry and exit when the gear selector was in park. Sales in 1961 were 62,535, with 73,051 in the generation's first reported year including 10,516 convertibles. Each model year has its own page.
