The eleventh generation was a two seat retro styled convertible, with a design recalling the first Thunderbird, shown at the 1999 Detroit show and built at Ford's Wixom plant from June 2001. It had an optional removable hardtop and used the DEW platform and a Jaguar derived 3.9 liter V8, stressing year round touring comfort over sportiness. Motor Trend named it Car of the Year for 2002, and it was discontinued in July 2005 after 68,098 were built. Each model year has its own page.
