The Fairlane name moved to Ford's new intermediate, introduced for the 1962 model year, to bridge the gap between the compact Falcon and the full size Galaxie. It competed with GM's senior compacts, the Plymouth Belvedere and the AMC Rambler. The 289 Challenger engine arrived in mid 1963, and the Thunderbolt drag racing cars were built in 1964. By 1965 the Fairlane had 14 inch wheels as standard. Its model years run from 1962 to 1965.
