The sixth generation, nicknamed the dentside Ford, was launched in December 1972 for 1973 on the chassis of the previous generation. It moved the fuel tank out of the cab, expanded the line with a SuperCab in 1974 and the F-150 for 1975, and used more galvanized steel against corrosion. In 1977 the F-Series passed the Chevrolet C/K to become the best selling truck in the United States, a position it has held ever since. Each model year has its own page.
