The first generation MPV used the LV platform of the Luce with a fixed rear axle and a four speed column automatic transmission. In Japan Mazda did not call it a minivan but a multipurpose luxury saloon of a new category. It was sold as the Efini MPV from October 1991 to November 1997, with a major change in October 1995. It was sold only at the Efini stores in Japan. Its model years run from 1991 to 1997.
