In the wake of the energy crisis Chrysler moved the Monaco name, and only the name, from the full size C platform to the mid size B platform, where it replaced the Coronet as a corporate twin of the downsized Plymouth Fury. The big C body car of 1976 survived for 1977 alone as the Royal Monaco. The B body Monaco became Dodge's largest car in 1978, after which the name was retired in favor of the St. Regis. Its model years run from 1977 to 1978.
