For 1977 the Monaco line split in two. The full size C platform car became the Royal Monaco in standard and Brougham trim as a two door hardtop, four door sedan and station wagon, with the 318 V8 standard for the first time and a three speed automatic the only transmission. The Monaco name itself moved to the mid size B platform, where a two door coupe, four door wagon and four door sedan replaced the Coronet and were corporate twins of the downsized Plymouth Fury.
