The first generation, sold as the Chevy II, was Chevrolet's conventional compact built after the rear engined Corvair was outsold by the Ford Falcon. It was one of the fastest development programs in General Motors history, only 18 months, and it came in sedan, wagon, hardtop and convertible bodies in 100, 300 and Nova 400 series. The first factory V8 arrived in 1964 and the Nova Super Sport in 1963. Its model years run from 1962 to 1965.
