The first Monte Carlo was introduced in September 1969 for the 1970 model year as a two door hardtop, developed under Pete Estes on the stretched A special platform that it shared with the Pontiac Grand Prix. It had a long hood and a chromed grille with a Corinthian helmet crest, an SS 454 package was offered in 1970 and 1971, and the generation ended in 1972 with record production. Its model years run from 1970 to 1972.
