BMW M1 (single generation)

Automobiles

The M1 was a single generation, hand built mid engined coupe made between 1978 and 1981 as a homologation special so that BMW could race in Group 4 and Group 5. Lamborghini was first meant to build it, but its financial trouble led BMW to take control again in April 1978 after seven prototypes. The steel space frame was by Dallara, the body by Giugiaro, and the straight six engine sat behind the seats. Its model years run from 1978 to 1981.
