The single generation of the 600 started from the Isetta because BMW lacked the resources to create a new car and a new engine together. It reused the Isetta front suspension and front door but needed a longer frame with box section side members, a different rear suspension and a bigger engine, the 582 cubic centimeter flat twin of the R67 motorcycle and sidecar outfit mounted behind the rear wheels. Its model years run from 1957 to 1959.
