The first Legend carried the Acura launch in 1986 as a V6-powered executive sedan, with a 2.5 litre engine and a long list of standard luxury features sold with one trim level and a single choice, the gearbox. It was the first Honda production car with a V6. A two-door coupe was added in 1987 with a larger 2.7 litre engine, and the sedans took that engine for 1988. The Legend was developed with Austin Rover as Project XX, and its sister car was the Rover 800, sold as a Sterling in the United States.
