The CX-8 of 2025 was built in Malaysia, where assembly was unaffected by the end of Japanese production and was to continue until at least 2026, and was sold in Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam. It was the mid size three row crossover SUV version of the CX-5, below the larger export CX-9, with a 2.5 liter engine. The CX-8 is a three-row version of the CX-5. The CX-8 was Mazda's flagship SUV in Japan, as the larger, export-only CX-9 is not sold in the country.
