For 2024 the TR model was introduced. In 2024 Subaru Motorsports USA and Vermont SportsCar debuted Project Midnight, a prototype build of the WRX designed specifically for tarmac speed. On 14 July 2024 it finished second at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed Hillclimb Shootout with a time of 46.07 seconds, driven by Scott Speed. The WRX is an all wheel drive sport compact car originally based on the Impreza created for the World Rally Championship in 1992.
