Chevrolet had announced in April 2021 that it would build an electric variant of the Silverado 1500 at Factory ZERO in Detroit, and the Silverado EV was unveiled in January 2022 at the Consumer Electronics Show. Production of the Silverado EV started at the Factory ZERO assembly plant in the second quarter of 2023, making 2023 the first model year for the electric truck alongside the combustion engine Silverados.
