Ford announced in March 2021 that it would discontinue Mondeo production in Europe and Argentina with no direct successor. The fourth generation Mondeo continued to be sold to the end of its production run, which ended in March 2022. The fifth generation was first spied testing in Belgium in June 2021, destined for China, and the Mondeo name, from the Latin word for world, had been used in Europe since 1993.
