The C8 launched as the 2020 model year Corvette Stingray, the first production Corvette with a mid mounted engine, a 6.2 liter LT2 V8, and it was sold as a two door targa top or as a retractable hardtop convertible. It replaced the C7, whose last model year was 2019. The 2020 production run was extended into December 2020, which delayed the start of the 2021 model year, and the Stingray was joined later by the Grand Sport, Z06, E-Ray and ZR1 variants.
