The facelifted third generation Alphard and Vellfire were released on 8 January 2018, with the second generation Toyota Safety Sense system standard across all variants. The Vellfire was marketed as a sportier alternative to the Alphard. It was model year 3 of 7 in the Toyota Alphard (third generation, AH30), 2015 to 2022, coming after the 2017 model year and before the 2019 model year.
