In 2017 the F48 X1 continued as the front wheel drive based subcompact luxury crossover, sold with the sDrive models and with xDrive as an option, alongside the long wheelbase F49 for the Chinese market. The F48 was the car on which BMW's small crossover range was built in this period, and it was the second year of the generation. The F48 and F49 sold alongside the 2 Series Active Tourer, which used the same front wheel drive platform.
