A long wheelbase model for the Chinese market, with the model code F49 and a wheelbase 110 mm longer than the standard car, was unveiled at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show, and these models went on sale in May 2016. The F48 X1 was now in its first full year on sale in the other markets as the second generation of the BMW subcompact crossover. The 110 mm longer wheelbase gave the Chinese market F49 extra rear legroom.
