For 2016, the final model year for the MKS, the rear trunk lid featured widely spaced lettering spelling out L I N C O L N across its width. The MKS was discontinued after 2016, with domestic MKS production having reached 100,248 for model years 2009 to 2016, and it was replaced by the 2017 Lincoln Continental, following a like named 2016 concept. The MKS was based on the Ford D3 platform with a front mounted engine and front or all wheel drive.
