The Chinese assembled ATS L was launched in China in August 2014, after sales in China had begun in November 2013 with cars imported from the United States by Shanghai GM. Prior to the debut of the ATS, Cadillac's smallest vehicle was the E segment CTS. The ATS used General Motors' Alpha platform in rear or all wheel drive form. The 2014 ATS was the second model year, with the ATS L added for China, as a longer car built in Shanghai.
