Updates made to the 2013 models, which went on sale in August 2012, included the TowCommand trailer brake controller system bundled with the heavy duty trailer towing package and a new internal shift control module that allows the six speed automatic to tailor shifts to engine demand. The XL trim and XLT Sport option were dropped, leaving the XLT, XLT Premium, Limited and King Ranch, and all versions of XL were dropped after 2012.
