Ford unveiled the C-Max Energi plug in hybrid and the C-Max Hybrid at the 2011 North American International Auto Show, both five seat only. They replaced the Escape Hybrid and the Mercury Mariner Hybrid, and a seven seat American C-Max announced at the show was cancelled before launch. A longer seven seat version called the Grand C-Max sat above it in the range. The C-Max was a five door compact people carrier that Ford built on the same platform as the Focus.
