The C-Max Hybrid went on sale in the United States in September 2012 as a 2013 model, followed by the plug in Energi version in mid October 2012. It was Ford's first hybrid only line, with a 2.0 litre Atkinson cycle engine and an electric motor giving 188 horsepower. The C-Max was a five door compact people carrier that Ford built on the same platform as the Focus. A longer seven seat version called the Grand C-Max sat above it in the range.
