On 9 February 2010 Toyota announced a global recall of 2010 model Priuses built since the introduction, over a braking software issue. In August the company began selling a sound device that mimics the whine of an electric motor so quiet hybrids can be heard at low speed, and at the Motomachi plant Toyota considered adding capacity. It was model year 2 of 6 in the Toyota Prius (third generation, XW30), 2009 to 2014, coming after the 2009 model year and before the 2011 model year. Model year pages for the Toyota Prius run from 1997 to 2025.
