The third generation debuted in January 2009 as the 2010 model and went on sale in Japan on 18 May, winning Car of the Year Japan for a second time. In June 2009 the older XW20 was kept on for fleet sales in Japan as a single grade EX, and a Plug-In Concept toured the Tokyo, Frankfurt and Los Angeles shows. This was the first model year of the Toyota Prius (third generation, XW30), 2009 to 2014, which took over from the Toyota Prius (second generation, XW20); the 2010 model year follows it. Model year pages for the Toyota Prius run from 1997 to 2025.
