In 2009 a 6R80 six speed automatic replaced the five speed behind the V8 engine in the Sport Trac. It was offered with only two trims, the XLT as the standard level and the Limited as the upgraded one, and had a plastic composite pickup bed and a power retractable rear window. All production came from the Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky, where it took the place of the Ranger. The Sport Trac was a mid size crew cab pickup that Ford built on a lengthened Explorer chassis, the first mid size pickup Ford produced.
