The fifth generation Mercury Sable was launched for the 2008 model year, developed as a mid cycle update of the Mercury Montego, and it revived the more widely recognised Sable nameplate. It remained the divisional counterpart of the Ford Taurus, as it had been for its entire production. It was the Mercury twin of the Ford Taurus. It followed the Montego, which had replaced the Sable after 2005. The fifth generation Sable was a full size four door sedan sold by Mercury for two model years.
